from scratch这个短语竟然是从零开始的意思，你知道为何么

今天浏览了upwork里面的任务，发现很多任务说明里有用到from scratch这个短语。大概就是说：

If you haven't done it before or just do it from scratch, hope you don't apply for it.(如果你以前没做过，或者现在是从零开始做，那么请不要投标)

专门查了scratch单词，意思主要是刮、挠相关，具体如下：

v.	挠，搔(痒处); 划破，抓破，划伤，抓伤(皮肤); (尤指意外地) 擦破，划损，刮坏;
n.	(皮肤或物体表面上的) 划痕，划伤; 刮(或擦、抓)的刺耳声; 挠痒; 搔痒;
adj.	仓促拼凑的; 无让步的; 无让杆的;

很难跟“从零开始”这个意思挂钩。

from scratch，白手起家，从头开始，从零开始

这短语说是来源于农作物种植，种植时埋种子，要把土地挖深一点，不能仅仅刨上面浅浅一层就了事。

示例：

We don't have much yet because we've just started to scratch the surface. But we are putting more men on the job and we will dig deeper into the facts.（目前我们掌握的案情不多，但是他们增加了办案人员，将深入探究证据。可见scratch the surface含义是肤浅表面、或者还处于初步阶段、有待深入的工作。）
